ESTHERVILLE- Mass of Christian Burial for Kenneth A. Thiel, 88, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville with Monsignor Michael Sernett, celebrant. Interment will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Estherville He died Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Avera Holy family Hospital in Estherville.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m., Monday at the Henry-Olson Funeral Chapel in Estherville with a vigil service at 7 p.m.
Kenneth Arnold Thiel, the son of Walter and Luella (Dahle) Thiel, was born Dec. 20, 1924, on the family farm near Ringsted.
As a young boy Kenny moved with his family to the Gruver area where he attended and graduated from Gruver High School.
On Nov. 11, 1946, Kenneth was united in marriage to Marie Neppl at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville. The couple raised their family and farmed their entire life in Emmet County. Along with his great passion and love for farming in his leisure time Kenny enjoyed fishing and in his younger years he enjoyed all types of sports. Most important to Kenny was spending time with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Estherville and Kenny was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
Left to cherish Kenny's memory are his wife of 66 years, Marie of Estherville; his children, Linda Pattison and her husband, Mike of Estherville; Brian Thiel of rural Estherville; Mark Thiel and his wife, Deb of rural Estherville; Lori Nissen and her husband, Randy of Estherville; daughter-in-law, Pat Thiel of Ankeny, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Kenny in death were an infant son, Doug; son, Greg; three infant grandchildren; infant great-grandson; his parents and brother, Raymond Thiel. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 9, 2013)
