Final Rites On Thursday for Woman
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Burrell will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Reese Funeral Home, Rev. William R. Nolan officiating. Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.Friends may call at the funeral home all day today and tomorrow until the time of services Thursday.
Pallbearers will be Alan Krieger, Lester Burgeson, Rush Johnson, Warren Petersen, Gus Ramsey and Howard Hatland.
Mrs. Sarah Burrell, 88, of Estherville, died at 2 a.m. yesterday morning at the Balmer Nursing Home. Death was attributed to infirmities of advanced age. She had been in failing health for several years.
The former Sarah Jane Shields was born Sept. 16, 1877, at Blaine, Pa., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Shields.
She received her education in Blaine schools and was married to William J. Burrell at Blaine Nov. 10, 1898.
They moved to a farm near Grundy Center in 1911 and in 1914 they moved to a farm north of Gruver, where they lived until 1937, when poor health forced Mr. Burrell to retire.
Following their retirement, they moved to Mankato, Minn., where they resided until the death of William Burrell in 1940.
Soon after her husband’s death, Mrs. Burrell left to live with her children, until she moved to the Good Samaritan Home seven years ago, and then from there to the Balmer Nursing Home.
She was a member of the Mankato Methodist Church.
Mrs. Burrell is survived by one son, Paul of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Mrs. Paul (Hazel) Erlandsen of St. Paul, MInn. and Mrs. Arthur (Grace) Wee of Grinnell, six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren.
Two sisters, Mrs. Carsten Lundt of Reinbeck and Mrs. Bess Hollenbaugh of Blaine, Pa.; and two brothers, James Shields of Blaine and William Shields of Harrisburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one son, Maurice, two grandchildren; one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 20, 1965)
