Walter Blagg Dies at 67; Rites Monday
Walter Blagg, 67, well-known Emmet County resident since 1896, died today at 1:40 a.m. at Holy Family Hospital where he had been a patient for the past few weeks. In failing health for more than two years, Mr. Blagg’s death was attributed to a lingering illness aggravated by a heart condition.

Born Sept. 10, 1894 at Libertyville in Jefferson County, he was the son of the late John Oliver and Kate Cole Blagg. With his parents he moved to Emmet County in 1906. The family moved at that time to the farm where Mr. Blagg continued to live until about two years ago. He was married March 9, 1921 to Bertha Edith Woods.

Two years ago the Walter Blaggs exchanged homes with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. John Blagg, and the two families continued in joint operation of the Blagg farm. The present home of the Walter Blaggs was built by his father, the late John Blagg, located across the road from the Blagg home farm.

Mr. Blagg was a lifetime member of the First Methodist church. He was always active in community affairs and held various offices in organizations of which he was a member.

Surviving his death are his widow, his son and four grandchildren, Beth, Gary, David and Sue Blagg. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Funeral services for Mr. Blagg are to be Monday at 2 p.m. in First Methodist Church, the Rev. Fred W. Ortmeyer officiating. A family service will be at 10 a.m. at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home. Burial is to be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at Sandin-Fuhrman from 3 p.m. tomorrow until 11 a.m. Monay at which time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state until time of the services. The casket will not be opened after the services.

Active pallbearers are to be Hogan Hoganson, Carl Ahrens, William Ramsey, Lester Ramsey, Burton Clark and James Hartman.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Werling, A.H. Schultz, Henry Mahlum, O.E. Morton, Ed Ahrens and R.S. Knight. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 13, 1961)
