Mrs. James [John] Barnes Dead
She Resided in Emmetsburg Perhaps 18 Years Ago
Mrs. Barnes, who with her husband, James Barnes, kept a café a number of years ago in the second building east of the Kermore hotel, died at Burlington the first of the week. The remains were taken to Estherville for burial. Mr. and Mrs. Barnes went from Emmetsburg to some point in Minnesota. They left this locality 17 or 18 years ago. Our people who knew her will regret to learn of her death. (Emmetsburg Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, April 17, 1930)

M.M. Bendixen and son Chris took Chas. Peterson back to Minneapolis Sunday and spent a few days sightseeing. Mr. Peterson came down to attend the funeral of his sister, Mrs. John Barnes, of Burlington, who was buried at Estherville Sunday [April 20, 1930].
