Estherville – Kathryn Ruth Wittern, 81, Estherville, died Thursday [May 15, 1980] at Holy Family Hospital.

Services for Mrs. Wittern will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, with Father Albert O. Grendler officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home until time of services.

The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Mahan, she was born May 5, 1899, at Graettinger. She attended Graettinger schools and graduated from Graettinger High School.

She was employed at a telephone operator in Graettinger for a short time before moving to Chicago, Ill., where she operated a seamstress shop for 12 years. She then returned to Estherville and was married to Harold Wittern on Sept. 8, 1941, at Marysville, Mo. Following her marriage she continued to work as a seamstress for stores in Estherville. She was a member of the Catholic Church.

Mrs. Wittern is survived by her husband, Harold, Estherville, and one sister, Mrs. Mildred Martin, Waukeegan, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and two sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 16, 1980)
