Death of Mrs. Jones
At her home in this city in the early hours of Thursday morning last occurred the death of Mrs. Austin Jones after an illness lasting several weeks. It was while making a visit in Woodbury county about a month ago that Mrs. Jones was taken ill visiting at the home of her brother and where her mother, Mrs. Vene [Verne] Brown [Hestina Riggs Brown], was living. She was brought to her home in Estherville where all that could be commanded as done for her recovery but evidently without avail. Since the death of her little daughter two months ago Mrs. Jones had been prostrated from the shock which that sad event in the family had occasioned and anxiety during the sickness of the little girl. In the hope of improvement which a change of scenery might bring and relaxation from household cares this trip was taken, but the constitution was too weakened and wasted to yield to treatment. The funeral was held from the M.E. church on Saturday afternoon at which service the pastor, Rev. Ginn, officiated. The interment was in the east side cemetery besides the remains of her daughter who so recently passed her mother to the better land. Mrs. Jones was a resident of Emmet county nearly her entire life, and was a member of one of the very respectable and well known families of the pioneer people of this locality and was a very worthy woman. She is survived by a husband and their two boys, the latter 11 and 12 years to whom the tender sympathy of many friends is extended. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 12, 1905)
