Armstrong – Funeral services for Martin E. [Elvin] Oleson, 93, rural Armstrong, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, with Pastors Michael Bennett and Don Sarff officiating. Interment will be in the High Lake Township Cemetery. He died Wednesday, May 2, 1984 at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Friends may call after 3 p.m. Friday at Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Ringsted.

He was born Nov. 14, 1890 in Emmet County, the son of Andrew and Eli (Nelson) Oleson. He received his education at the rural Jack Creek school. On Feb. 27, 1913 he was united in marriage with Esther Mitchell at rural Fenton. She died June 6, 1979. Oleson lived in Emmet County most of his life and farmed on the same farm for 64 years. He was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and a member of the Halfa School Board.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Merle (Leona) Flint, Ringsted, and Mrs. Meryl Christiansen, Ringsted; two sons, Arnold E. Oleson and Maynard Oleson, both of Armstrong; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, infant son, one grandson, one granddaughter, five brothers and four sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 3, 1984)
