Armstrong – Esther [Evida] Oleson, 86, died Wednesday [June 6, 1979] at her farm home in rural Armstrong.Services for Mrs. Oleson will be conducted at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, south of Gruver, with the Reverend Dale Jensen officiating. Burial will follow at the High Lake Township Cemetery and Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, will be in charge of arrangements.
Friends may call at the Martin Oleson farm home, rural Armstrong, after 1 p.m. Friday, and at the church after 9 a.m. Saturday up until the time of services. The family is requesting memorials, rather than flowers.
Mrs. Oleson was born May 31, 1893 [per cemetery records, 1892], in rural Palo Alto County, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Mitchell. She was educated in the rural Palo Alto schools and married Martin Oleson on Feb. 27, 1933, at her parents farm home in rural Palo Alto County. She lived in Palo Alto and Emmet counties all her life an on the same farm in Swan Lake Township for the past 59 years.
She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Gruver, and of the ALCW and the Esther Circle.
She is survived by her husband, Martin, rural Armstrong; two sons, Arnold E. and Maynad Oleson, both of Armstrong; and two daughters, Mrs. Rudy ( Meryl) Christensen and Mrs. Merle (Leona) Flint, both of Ringsted.
She is also survived by four brothers, Morris and Milford Mitchell, both of Emmetsburg; Albert Mitcehll, Fenton; Edward Mitchell, Milford; and two sisters, Mrs. Serena Pederson, Emmetsburg; and Mrs. John (Bertha) Micklick, Clear Lake; and by 16 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant son, a granddaughter, a grandson, and four brothers and sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 8, 1979)
