Prosperous Farmer Passes Away
Jas. Neilson, a prosperous farmer residing near Hoprig, died last Thursday from the effects of an operation. The deceased was a single man fifty-six years old and leaves a mother, two sisters and three brothers were laid to rest in the High Lake cemetery, the Rev. R.C. Mitchell of this city, officiating. Hoprig and Vicinity
Jim Nielson who died at the city hospital in Estherville Thursday morning was brought home Thursday afternoon. Services were held from the home Sunday and the remains laid to rest in the High Lake cemetery. The relatives of the deceased have the sympathy of the entire community. Obituary – Nielson [Neilson]
Mr. James Nielson was born in Canada in 1861 died in the city hospital in Estherville Nov. 30th, following an operation for the removal of cancer of the bladder.

In 1882 he came to Iowa with his parents, settling in High Lake township, this county, where he resided until his death.

Besides his mother, four brothers and four sisters are left to mourn his loss, as follows: John, Carman and William of Slater, Minnesota; Frank, of Saskatchewan, Canada; Mrs. Thomas. Tummings [Timmons] of Prairie City; Mrs. Joe Vanmurean [Van Maren] of Runnels; Mrs. William Larson of Melcke and Elizabeth. Deceased was one of the county’s most highly respected citizens and beloved by all who knew him.

The remains were taken to his home near Hoprig, where the funeral was held Dec. 2d, conducted by Rev. Mitchell of the Presbyterian church of this city of which organization he was a constant member.

A large concourse of mourning relatives and friends were at the funeral to pay their last respects to the departed. The floral offerings were many and very beautiful. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 13, 1916)
