Obituary of Mrs. Ann C. Briggs Who Died March 15
Sister of John C. Molison, of Spencer
Mrs. Ann Crichton Briggs, of Pasadena, California, formerly of this city, passed away at the Collins P. and Howard Hunting Memorial hospital in Pasadena at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 15, 1946.

Services were conducted by Dr. Harry C. Slator, pastor of the South Pasadena Episcopal church in the “Wee Kirk of the Heather,” at Forest Lawn Memorial Mortuary, Wednesday, March 20, at 9 a.m.

Ann Crichton Molison was born July 23, 1870, at 3 Robertson Place, District of St. Andrew Burgh, of Edinburgh, Scotland, the sixth child of James Crichton Molison and Barbara Ramsey Suttie.

At the age of 10 years she came to the United States with her parents, arriving in Emmetsburg Iowa March, 1880. Her father purchased land eleven miles north of Emmetsburg in Jack Creek township Emmet county, Iowa, the Molison family being the first to settle there. The family built a home on the open prairie of the then “wild west.” Here the deceased assisted her mother in the farm home, until her mother, who had been an invalid for seven years, passed away in 1891, leaving her daughter to carry on in her place. She never faltered or complained but carried on even until the end, always willing to help. At the time of her death, she was 75 years, 8 months and 8 days of age.

During the late war, Mrs. Briggs was a tireless worker, knitting for the boys, for which she received a letter of commendation from the Red Cross.

All the family but one have now passed on to their promised home. Mrs. Briggs leaves to mourn her passing, only one brother, John C. Molison, of Spencer, Iowa; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Her husband S.W. Briggs, preceded her in death in 1932. Mrs. Abbie Briggs, of Graettinger, is a sister-in-law.

John C. Molison, an old Graettinger resident, went to California to attend his sister’s funeral. Due to ill health, Mrs. Molison was unable to accompany him.

A number of former Graettinger friends now living in California, assisted at the funeral services. Among them were Mrs. J.H. Gammon, Mrs. A.J. Johnson and Mrs. Louis Christensen.

The Times extends sincere sympathy to Mr. Molison and to the members of his family and other relatives in their sorrow. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, April 11, 1946)
