Reed Jacobs Dies at 73
Armstrong – Reed Jacobs, 73, died Saturday [May 7, 1960] afternoon at the home of his son, Clarence Jacobs, who lives in Armstrong. Mr. Jacobs had suffered no previous illness. Death was caused by heart complications.Mr. Jacobs was born April 30, 1887 [1878], at Shelby County. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Linn Jacobs, and received his education in Shelby county schools.
On Aug. 27, 1897, he married Julia Porter, and they farmed in Shelby County until 1914, when they moved to Marion County.
After farming there three years, they moved to the Ringsted-Armstrong area, where they have lived for the past 40 years. Mr. Jacobs retired 12 years ago, moving to Ringsted but had been living with his son, Clarence, in Armstrong for the past year.
Survivors include four sons, Clarence Jacobs, Armstrong; Floyd Jacobs, West Bend; Lawrence and Glen Jacobs of Newton and one daughter, Mrs. Sigard Planting of Gruver.
Also surviving are a sister, Mrs. Zellmar Keller of Decatur, Ill., 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Armstrong, the Rev. Harlan Bloekhus officiating. Burial will be in High Lake cemetery. Friends may call at Slaba Funeral Home from this evening until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 9, 1960)
