Mrs. Iverson, Wallingford Resident, Dies
Mrs. Gertie [Gertina] Iverson, 68, of Wallingford, died 9 p.m. yesterday near Iowa City. Death came as a result of a heart attack for the evening. She had not been ill previous to the attack.Mrs. Iverson had left her home here Sunday for a visit with her son.
Survivors include four sons, Lawrence and Ray of Wallingford, Arthur of Ruthven and Gordon at Iowa City; four daughters, Mrs. Lowell Ostrander of Indiana, Mrs. Paul Thompson of Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Bernard Isakson and Mrs. Maxwell Jamison, both of Estherville. She also is survived by 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, one brother, John L. Johnson of Graettinger, and two sisters, Mrs. Louise Oddson of Graettinger and Mrs. Martha Simonson of Norway. Her husband and son, Earl, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Iverson was a member of Wallingford Lutheran church. Funeral arrangements have not as yet been completed. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 7, 1950)
Iverson Rites Friday
Services for Mrs. Gertie Iverson will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Sandin Funeral home and at 1:30 p.m. at Wallingford Lutheran church, the Rev. C.B. Gunderson officiating. Burial will be at High Lake cemetery. The family has requested at those friends who have been planning to send floral tributes to the services to send money to a worthy charity as a memorial to Mrs. Iverson. Mrs. Gertie Johnson Iverson was born May 10, 1881 in High Lake township. Her parents were Lewis and Carrie Johnson.She was baptized and confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran church.
On May 23, 1900 she was united in marriage to Andrew J. Iverson and to this union nine children were born. They are:
Mrs. Myrtle Ostrander of Syracuse, Ind.; Mrs. Cora Thompson of Rock Island, Ill.; Mrs. Esther Isaakson and Mrs. Gina Jamison of Estherville; Lawrence and Raymond of Wallingford; Arthur of Ruthven and Gordon of Iowa City; and Earl who preceded his mother in death.
She had gone to Iowa City for a visit with her son Gordon and family when death came suddenly on Monday evening when she suffered a heart attack.
She had spent the greater part of her life in the High Lake area with the exception of nine years that were spent in North Dakota and five that were spent in South Dakota.
Surviving besides her eight children are a brother, John L. Johnson of Graettinger, and two sisters, Mrs. Louisa Oddsen of Graettinger and Martha Simonson of Norway; also 20 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Services were held in the Wallingford Lutheran church with the Rev. C.B. Gunderson officiating. Pastor Hinderaker of Estherville assisted. She was buried in the family lot in the High Lake cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 25, 1950)
