Graettinger – Mrs. Milford (Edith [Elvira]) Grodland, 77, longtime resident of Graettinger and sister-in-law of Mrs. A.R. Espeset of Estherville, died yesterday afternoon in an Alexandria, Minn. Hospital. She was hospitalized a week ago after suffering a heart attack and she had another heart attack yesterday.The former Edith Ruth was born Sept. 15, 1886, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Aden Ruth. She was married to Milford Grodland on Feb. 22, 1905, at his parents’ farm home near Ingham Lake.
Following their marriage, the Grodlands lived in Estherville for more than 50 years where Mr. Grodland was an auctioneer. She was a member of the Friends Church in Alexandria.
Surviving are her husband, one son, Merle of Chicago, two daughters, Mrs. Woodrow (Verna) Wilson and Mrs. Wayne (Arlene) Hamilton, both of Phoenix, Ariz. She is also survived by six grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Eunice Keith, Moose Lake, Minn.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday in Alexandria and the body will be brought to Graettinger Thursday afternoon where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Graettinger Methodist Church. Burial will be in High Lake Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger from 4:30 p.m. Thursday and until time of service on Friday. (Estherville Daily news, Estherville, IA, September 18, 1963)
