Graettinger – Services for Leonard [Francis] Barrett, 84, of Graettinger, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at the United Methodist Church in Graettinger with the Rev. Al Milligan officiating. Interment will be in High lake Cemetery at Wallingford with military graveside services conducted by American Legion Post 162 of Graettinger. He died Tuesday, May 2, 1995 at Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger.
He was born Sept. 27, 1910 at Graettinger, the son of Frank and Hannah (Nelson) Barrett and attended school in Dolliver, graduating from High School in 1927. He later attended Estherville Junior College for two years. On April 9, 1964 he married Sarah [Fanter] Kaminski at St. James, Minn. He farmed southeast of Estherville several years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following the war he and his brother owned the Graettinger Locker plant. He was later a policeman until retiring in the early 1980’s.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Nelson-Christensen American Legion Post in Graettinger.
Survivors include a step-son, Ted Kaminski of Armstrong; step-daughter, Irene Tietje of Fairmont, Minn.; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Jack Barrett of Oelwein and sister, Alice Smith of Milford.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sarah, June 20, 1983 and his parents. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, may 3, 1995)
