Estherville – Services for Mrs. Ida R. Wolden, 88, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, South of Gruver. Interment was in the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. Pastor Michael Bennett officiated. She died Friday, August 27, at Holy Family Hospital.

Henry and Olson Funeral Home, Estherville, was in charge of arrangements.

Ida Randena Gunderson was born Jan. 27, 1894 in Twelve Mile Lake Township of Emmet county, Iowa, the daughter of L.L. and Julia (Sande) Gunderson. She attended Emmet County Schools and graduated from Estherville High School in 1915. She attended Jewel Lutheran college and earned a public school music degree in 1922; she earned her bachelor of arts degree from Buena Vista college in 1954. Wolden taught in rural Emmet County schools from 1915-1920, later she taught in Palo Alto County schools, Wallingford and Rembrandt. She taught for 32 years and retired in 1966. She was united in marriage to C. Fred Wolden on June 17, 1924 at her parents’ home in Wallingford. She was very interested in bird watching and ornithology. She move to Estherville in 1971 and had an apartment at Good Samaritan Center until 1976. At the time of her death she was residing at Rosewood Manor.

She was a member of the Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Circles; Ladies Aid and church choir.

Survivors include one daughter, Betty Gregory, Estherville and one son, Lauren Wolden of Scottsdale, Ariz. formerly of Estherville; five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 31, 1982)
