Death Takes Bert Twito, Wallingford
Bert Twito, 74, longtime resident of the Wallingford area, died Saturday at 8:25 p.m. Mr. Twito had been in failing health since 1960 and since Dec. 31, 1966, he had been hospitalized either at Holy Family Hospital or at the Veterans’ Hospital in Sioux Falls. His death was attributed to cancer.

He was born June 17, 1893, in Chicago, Ill., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Severt Twito. As a young boy he moved with his parents and family to Lake Mills where he received his elementary and high school education. He later attended Waldorf College at Forest City.

April 26, 1922, he was married to Tena Nelson at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Nelson of Wallingford.

Mr. and Mrs. Twito lived their entire married life in the Wallingford area.

He was a longtime member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church. A World War I veteran, he belonged to both the American Legion and the VFW. During World War I he spent 11 months overseas.

Mr. Twito is survived by his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Francis (La Vonne) Van De Walle of Estherville; one son, Merlin Twito of Wallingford; six grandchildren, Dennis, Patty, Jerry and Kathy Van De Walle, and Terry and Cindy Twito; two sisters, his twin, Annie Twito of New Rockford, N.D., and Sena Twito of Jamestown, N.D.; three brothers, Lewis of Wallingford, Iver of Woodburn, Ore., and Mike of Emmons, Minn.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Clifford Lindstrom of Sheyenne, N.D., and Mrs. Bill Tedrow of New Rockford, N.D.; six half-bothers, Art of Beresford, S.D., Bennie of California, Gerhard of Mandan, N.D., Irvin of Aurora, S.D., Peter of Sheyenne, N.D., and Jens of New Rockford, N.D.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild, Julie Ann Twito; and two half-brothers, Ted and Selmer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Wallingford Lutheran church, Rev. Robert Glaser officiating. Burial will be in the Wallingford Cemetery.

A family service will be held at the church at 1:30 p.m. Graveside military services will be conducted by the Wallingford American Legion Post.

Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today until 11 a.m. Wednesday at which time the body will be taken to lie in state until time of services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 14, 1967)
