Rites for Carl Thoreson Set
Graettinger – Funeral services for Carl Thoreson, 83, Wallingford resident who died Monday [June 27, 1960] at the Good Samaritan Home here, have been set for 2 p.m. Thursday at the Graettinger Methodist Church.

Mr. Thoreson suffered crushed vertebrae in a fall at his home last May and was hospitalized for five weeks before moving to the Good Samaritan Home. He had undergone a severe stroke in 1949.

Born and raised on a farm near Wallingford, Mr. Thoreson lived in that area for all except two years of his life.

He was married May 26, 1908, to Kate Harrison in Estherville. They lived on the Thoreson homestead for 12 years, moved to Oregon for two years, and then returned to Wallingford where they lived for 20 years.

Mr. Thoreson was a member of the Graettinger Methodist Church.

His widow and one brother, Olaf of Wallingford ware his only survivors. There are several nieces and nephews.

A service for the family will be held at the Martin Funeral Home in Graettinger at 1:30 Thursday prior to the 2 p.m. ceremony at the church. The Rev. R.O. Grote will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Wallingford.

Pallbearers are Chet Torreson, Kenneth Starkey, E.B. Burg, C.P. Jackson, Otto Appel, and Jens Rasmussen.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 8 p.m. today. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, July 27, 1960)
