Obituary of Jermund Sando
Jermund O. Sando was born April 25 1860, at St. Ansgar, Mitchel county, Iowa. Parents, Ole and Barbro Sando. He was baptized at St. Ansgar by Rev. C.L. Clausen. At the age of 5 years he came with his parents to Emmet county where he lived with them on their homestead north of Wallingford. He was confirmed by Rev. M.C. Hollseth, then pastor of Estherville and Wallingford congregations. At the age of twenty he went to South Dakota in the neighborhood of Baltic where he farmed for a few years. He came back to Emmet County and built on a farm near Wallingford. In the year 1895 he sold this farm to Gustav Gilbert and moved to Nelson county, N.Dak. In the year 1904 he was united in holy wedlock to Mrs. Syneva [per gravestone, Soneva] [Nelson] Rislaw [Rislow]. This union was blessed with four children. In Nelson county, N. Dak., Mr. Sando helped to build and organize the church in the West Forest River Congregation. In the year 1919 he with his family moved to Starbuck, Minn., where he lived until his death. He passed to the beyond the 18th day of April, 1925. Was at the time of his death 64 years, 11 months and 23 days old. Those to mourn the loss of a dear husband, father and brother are: wife, Mrs. J.O. Sando; stepson and daughter, John and Gina Rislaw; and daughters, Hilma, Thelma, Bertha and Leona Sando, and one sister, Mrs. S.L. Nestigaard, Michigan, North Dakota.Funeral services were held Thursday, April 23, at the Lutheran church at Starbuck, Minn. Then the casket was shipped to Wallingford, Iowa. Funeral services were held at the Sando home in Wallingford and at the Lutheran church. Chas. Anderson, funeral director, T. Hanson conducting the funeral services. Pall Bearers were James Refsell, L.L. Gunderson, E.E. Ellefson, Nelson Anderson, Halvor Egertson and Sam Larson. The quartette sang a beautiful number. A large host of friends, relatives and old acquaintances of Mr. Sando had met up to pay him the last tribute and follow him to his last resting place. He was laid to rest at the Lutheran cemetery where his body will remain until the day when the Lord will bring it back to life. May the Loving Saviour comfort and cheer the bereaved family and draw us all to him for time and eternity. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 6, 1925)
