Estherville – Services for Emmet H. [Harold] Rolfson, 76, of Estherville, will be held Thursday, 11 a.m., with Pastor Jack Petersen officiating. Interment will be in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery with military graveside rites by Wallingford Legion and Estherville VFW Post 3388. He died Monday, Dec. 15, 1997 at Holy Family Health Services.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born Sept. 19, 1921 near Wallingford, the son of Edward and Sophia (Jensen) Rolfson. He grew up in the Wallingford area and attended country school and the Graettinger School. He married Dorothy Hampson March 16, 1943 at Jackson, Minn. He served in the US Navy during WWII. He was paralyzed from the waist down due to an injury he received while loading ammunition at Pearl Harbor later in the war. After service he farmed 19 years near Wallingford. The couple moved into Estherville earlier this year. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Disabled American Veterans, Paralyzed Veterans of America, American Legion, VFW, and had been a Boy Scout leader in the past.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Estherville; son, Roland “Rollie” Rolfson and daughter Mrs. Robert (Shelley) Carter both of Estherville; grandchildren: Kathleen, Brenda, William and Jonathan Rolfson, Lindsay and Zachary Carter; two great-grandchildren; sister, Christine Norris, Graettinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 17, 1997)
