Dies After Long Illness
After nearly four months of serious illness, Simon Tangen, 60, passed to his reward, Saturday [December 20, 1930] evening at nine forty-five. Mr. Tangen suffered a severe attack of typhoid fever 25 years ago, from which he never fully recovered, although he continued with his trade of tinner and plumber until his last breakdown.

Mr. Tangen was born in October, 1870, in Winneshiek county, the son of Hans and Martha Tangen. When a young man he came to Estherville where he learned his trade, but returned to his home and was married on Feb. 11, 1989 at Decorah to Miss Marie Moe. They took up their residence at Newell, residing there six years. From Newell, the family moved to Estherville 28 years ago.

Two daughters were born to Mr. and Mrs. Tangen, Miss Mamie, a teacher at Boulder, Colo., and Alice, a registered nurse of Minneapolis. Both daughters were with their father during his last illness. Besides the daughters and loving wife, one brother Andrew of Northwood, N.D., survives.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at one-thirty from the home and at two o’clock from the Estherville Lutheran church in charge of Rev. L.A. Mathre, pastor of the church. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 24, 1930)

Note: Burial in Oak Hill
