Frederick J. [Joseph] Nissen Killed in Accident
Frederick J. Nissen, 44, Menomonee Falls, Wisc., well known former resident of Estherville, was killed instantly late yesterday afternoon in a two-car crash, according to word received here last night by Mr. and Mrs. Charles Werling, parents of Mrs. Nissen.

The accident occurred at an intersection of a new highway near Menomonee Falls as Mr. Nissen was returning home. He was a district supervisor for National Laboratories. It is reported that he was killed instantly and that the driver of the other car is hospitalized at Menomonee Falls but is expected to recover.

Mr. Nissen observed his 44th birthday Nov. 11. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Nissen, Fort Dodge, former Estherville residents, he grew up here, attended the Estherville High School. He attended Drake University at Des Moines after graduation from high school.

He was married Aug. 17, 1940 to Evelyn Norby, daughter of Mrs. Charles Werling. A son, Peter Joe, was born to the couple, and three weeks after his son’s birth, Nissen entered the Armed Forces, serving both in this country and overseas with the United States Army.

Upon return from the service, he was employed as a radio announcer by KICD. He operated the Estherville office of KICD. Later he became affiliated with National Laboratories, first as a salesman and later as a supervisor. He and his wife and son moved about four years ago to Menomonee Falls.

The possessor of a fine voice, Mr. Nissen was often called upon to sing at public functions and at weddings and funerals.

Mr. Nissen’s body is to be returned to Estherville tomorrow. Mrs. Nissen and son will accompany the body here. Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Roskoff of Menomonee Falls are bringing them by car.

Funeral services are to be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Patrick’s Church the Rev. Father J.H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 21, 1957)

Nissen Rites Are Monday
Funeral services for Frederick J. Nissen, former Estherville resident who was fatally injured Wednesday in an auto accident near Menomonee Falls, Wisc., will be held at 9:30 Monday morning in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, the Rev. J.H. Duhigg officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Pallbearers for the funeral will be Edgar Warrington, Kenneth Bixby, Lee Blom, Stanley Smith, Ralph O. Rogers and Ben Sanders of Spencer.

The rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Sunday until time of services Monday.

Mrs. Nissen was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion at Menomonee Falls and of the Estherville V.F.W. Post No. 3388. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 22, 1957)
