Retired R.I. Master Mechanic Dies at Rochester
William Fitzgerald, 74, a retired Rock Island master mechanic, died in Rochester, Minn. at nine p.m. last night. He had been in the hospital there for five weeks.

Mr. Fitzgerald served as general foreman from 1911 to 1914 and as master mechanic here from 1914 to 1916. He held the same position at Manly; Trenton, Mo., and Fairbury, Neb. He returned to Estherville in February 1938 as general foreman.

He retired from the railroad in 1939.

Surviving him are his widow, two sons, Thomas of Chicago, and William of Dayton, Ohio and a sister of Duluth, Minn. A brother preceded him in death last April.

Funeral arrangements have not been arranged for at the present time.

Mr. and Mrs. Chris Peterson have gone to Rochester, Minn. to return to Estherville with Mrs. Fitzgerald, her two sons and Mr. Fitzgerald’s sister. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 17, 1943)
