Wallingford – Services for Melvina I. [Irene] Rasmussen, 83, of Wallingford, will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Torgerson officiating. Interment will be in Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery. She died Thursday, Feb. 20, 1997 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

She was born Sept. 5, 1913 at Graettinger, the daughter of Lewis and Dorthea (Bondhus) Sandvig and attended Graettinger Schools. She moved to Wallingford in 1947. On Sept. 12, 1934 she married Jens Rasmussen at Graettinger. She lived in Wallingford until 1996 when she became a resident of Good Samaritan Center in Estherville. She was a member of Wallingford Lutheran Church, Women of ELCA and Emmet County Farm Bureau Women.

Survivors include daughters: Mrs. Charles (Shirley) Baker, Estherville; Mrs. Marvin (Dorothy) Herum, Ash Flat, Ark.; Mrs. Dale (Mary) Kimball of Spirit Lake; seven grandchildren: Linda, Ron, Connie Olson; Gary, Tracy Herum; Rick and Christine Kimball; five great-grandchildren; sister: Mrs. Harold (Harriet) Brady of Ruthven; two sisters-in-law; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1981, parents and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1997)
