Mrs. Mary Pro Was Pioneer of County
Mrs. Mary Pro, 80, was born April 6, 1873, in Swan Lake township. She died May 20, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Henaman at Ames.Born of pioneer parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lars Aanonson, Mrs. Pro’s maiden name was Maria (Mary) Ingeborg Aanonson. She was reared in the Swan Lake area and confirmed on April 29, 1888, in the Lutheran faith.
On Nov. 8, 1903, she married John Pro at Wallingford. He worked as a mason during his lifetime in this area. He died in October, 1947.
Mrs. Pro continued to life in Emmet county until one and a half years ago when she moved with her daughter to Spirit Lake and later to Ames.
Surviving her death are five children, Donald Pro of Estherville, Mrs. George (Alice) Henaman of Ames, Mrs. Ed (Leila) Petty of Ames, Mrs. Ira (Emma) Pleart of Des Moines and Mrs. Tevis (Ruby) Fulton of Denver; 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held May 23 at the Estherville Lutheran church, the Rev. L.G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial was in Wallingford cemetery.
Pall bearers were Lyle Stall of Jackson, Minn., Vernon Stall of Gruver, Herb Bergeson of Plover, Leonard Bergeson of Pocahontas and Arthur Aanonson of Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 27, 1953)
