Wallingford – Funeral services for Viola B. Olson, 86, of Wallingford will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 at the Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor Rusty Bailey officiating. Interment will be held at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford. She died on Monday, Nov. 3, 2003 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Viola was born on Aug. 9, 1917 near Ruthven, the daughter of John and Dorthea (Olsen) Jacobsen. As a young girl, Viola attended St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Walnut Township and graduated from high school in Ruthven.

On Feb. 13, 1937, Viola was united in marriage to Norman Olson in Spencer. After their marriage the couple made their home in Wallingford for a time before buying and moving to a farm west of Wallingford in 1939, where they have lived since.

Viola enjoyed quilting, baking, flower gardening and all types of sporting events. She especially enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. Viola and Norman went to the girls State Basketball Tournaments for many years in Des Moines.

Viola was a member of Wallingford Lutheran Church where she was active in many different church activities and functions.

Left to cherish Viola’s memory are her husband, Norman of Wallingford; one son, Darwin Olson and his wife, Mary Ann of Arnolds Park; one daughter, Gloria Krieger and her husband, Donald of Terril; nine grandchildren: Kellie, Konnie, Kurt, Kaylene, Kyle, Kevin, Kami, David and Dan; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Thorvold Jacobsen and his wife, Gail of Ruthven; sister, Mary Knudson of Des Moines; two sisters-in-law, Maxine Jacobsen of Graettinger and Arlene Jacobsen of Spencer.

Preceding Viola in death were her parents; two brothers, Frank and Russell; and two sisters, Edith and Erna. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 5, 2003)
