Graettinger – Funeral services for Edna Ann Ness, 80, of Graettinger will be held at 2 p.m. on Sat., Nov. 23 at the Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Jack Torgerson officiating. Interment will be held at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. She died on Thurs., Nov. 21 at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. today, Fri. Nov. 22 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger.
She was born on December 23, 1915 in Smith Center, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Edna (Logan) Hutchinson. She received her education in the Superior and Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School in 1933. She taught in rural country schools for several years. On June 4, 1937, she married Aadne Ness in Estherville. After her marriage, the couple farmed in the 12-Mile Lake area. In 1979, the couple retired and moved to Graettinger. She helped out in the Headstart program in Emmetsburg for many years.
She was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church, ALCW and the Farm Bureau Women.
She is survived by one son, Robert Ness of rural Estherville; three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Phillips of De Sota; Mrs. Richard (Marjorie) Tindall of Graettinger; Mrs. Roger (Joyce) Schoulte of Farmersburg; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Ed Hutchinson of Spirit Lake; Gene of Denver, Colo.; and Jim Hutchinson of San Antonio, Texas.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on Aug. 22, 1989; one grandson; two brothers and one sister. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 22, 1996)
