Mrs. Gunhild Ness Dies
Mrs. Gunhild Ness, 86, died today at 8:15 a.m. in the Good Samaritan Home. The cause of death was old age and complications.

Survivors include four sons, Ingolf of Sturgeon, Mo.; Aadne, Leonard and Gilbert of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. I.G. Maaland of Cylinder and Mrs. Chester Anderson of Estherville; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Knutson of Radcliff and Mrs. Martin Valen of Norway.

Mrs. Ness was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Irvin; and a daughter, Ruth.

Mrs. Ness was born Dec. 5, 1873 in Norway to Mr. and Mrs. Aadne Stockka.

Sandin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Details of the funeral services will be published in tomorrow’s paper. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 20, 1960)

Ness Rites to Be Friday
Funeral services for Mrs. Gunhild Ness, 86, who died yesterday morning in the Good Samaritan Home, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Wallingford Lutheran Church the Rev. N.L. Jolivette officiating. Burial will be in the Wallingford cemetery. Friends may call at the Sandin-Fuhrman Funeral Home until Friday morning. At that time the body will be taken to the church to lie in state.

Pallbearers are grandsons of Mrs. Ness. They are Oliver Ness, Iowa City; Arlin and Robert Ness, Estherville; Lloyd Anderson, Estherville; Glen Maaland, Cylinder; and Albert Duhn, Spirit Lake.

She is survived by four sons, Ingolf of Sturgeon, Mo.; Aadne, Leonard and Gilbert of Estherville; two daughters, Mrs. I.G. Maaland of Cylinder and Mrs. Chester Anderson of Estherville; two sisters, Mrs. Annie Knutson of Radcliff and Mrs. Martin Valen of Norway; 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Mrs. Ness in death were her husband, who died in 1953, one son, one daughter and two brothers.

Gunhild Stockka was born Dec. 5, 1873 in Stavanger, Norway. She was married to Iver Ness in May, 1894. In October of 1907 they came to this country and made their home in Hamilton County near Randall. Mr. and Mrs. Ness moved to Cylinder in 1910. They came to Emmet County in 1916 and lived in the Wallingford vicinity. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 21, 1960)
