Estherville – Funeral services for Leonard Munson, 90, of Estherville will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 10 at the Estherville Lutheran Church with Pastor Arlyn Norris officiating. Interment will be held at Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery, Wallingford. He died on Friday, June 7 at Rosewood Manor Care Center in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday, June 9 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

He was born on April 16, 1906 in Estherville, the son of John and Thea (Nelson) Munson. He received his education in the Estherville schools and graduated from Estherville High School. He was united in marriage to Blanche Cook on May 21, 1933 in Estherville.

He spent 53 years in the grocery business, first working for Myhre and Jeglum Grocery and then Dan Howard Grocery Store. He then owned a grocery store for three years in Lakefield, Minn. before buying a grocery store in Wallingford from Chris Larson. He and his wife operated the store in Wallingford for 34 years before retiring in 1976.

He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church and the Wallingford Fire Department, a town councilman and was town clerk for 13 years. He also served on the school board. The couple moved back to Estherville in 1984 and transferred their membership to the Estherville Lutheran Church. H has been living at Rosewood Manor since April, 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Blanche of Estherville and one son, James L. Munson of Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Selma. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 6, 1996)
