Wallingford – Funeral services for Norman Mickelson, 91, of Wallingford will be held on Thursday, October 28, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with Pastor Jack Torgerson officiating. Interment will be at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford. He died on October 26 at Avera Holy Family Hospital in Estherville.Visitation will be on Wednesday at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.
He was born on November 24, 1907 in Wallingford, the son on Nels and Anna (Ellefson) Mickelson. He attended school in the Gunderson Grade School northwest of Wallingford.
On October 7, 1933, he was united in marriage to Mildred Lilly Hull in Wallingford. Following their marriage, the couple made their home in Wallingford. He was a tractor mechanic all his life. He was employed by Motor Supply Company in Estherville. He also had his own repair shop in Wallingford for many years. Mildred died on July 26, 1996. He has been living at the Good Samaritan Center in Estherville.
He was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church, where he also was a deacon for many years. He served on the Wallingford Fire Department for 35 years, most of the time as Fire Chief, and for 30 years on the Wallingford City Council.
He is survived by three sons, Delbert Eldon Mickelson and wife of Wallingford; Eugene Nels Mickelson of Spencer and Ronald Leslie Mickelson and wife of Littleton, Colo.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one brother, one sister and one daughter-in-law. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October, 27, 1999)
