Peter Larson Dies

Estherville relatives today are awaiting the arrival from Gardiner, N.D., of the body of Peter Larson, 78, who died Thursday [May 5, 1949] in Fargo. His sister, Lillian Larson, is accompanying the body to Estherville. The body is being returned to Joseph Larson, brother of Peter. Larson, a farmer, formerly lived in Emmet county before moving to North Dakota about 30 years ago. He had come to Emmet county in 1901. His parents had lived in Estherville east of the M. & St. L. depot. His father died in Estherville in 1913 and his mother died in Fargo in 1934. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Sandin funeral parlor with the Rev. L.G. Hinderaker officiating. Burial will be in Wallingford cemetery. Friends may call to see the body at Sandin’s anytime up to the hour of the funeral. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 7, 1949)

Funeral Was held at Estherville
Peter Larson, 78, passed away Thursday evening, may 5, 1949, in a hospital at Fargo, North Dakota, where he was taken a few days previously following a stroke.

Mr. Larson had been in failing health since last February, suffering with a complication of ailments. A few days before his death he was stricken with paralysis and was taken from his farm home to the hospital.

A sister, Lillian, accompanied the remains to the Sandin Funeral Home, Estherville, where services were held Monday afternoon, May 9. Rev. L.G. Hinderaker officiated. Miss Louis Haack sang two sons, accompanied by Mrs. C.M. Gronstal. Burial was at Riverside cemetery, Wallingford, where his parents are buried. Pallbearers were Edward and Martin Johnson, Norman Larson, O’Neal, Joe and Kermit Lande.

Peter Larson, son of Lars and Thorborg Larson, was born February 2, 1871, at DeKalb, Illinois. A few years later he moved with his parents and sister Anna to a farm five miles southeast of Wiota, in Cass county, Iowa.

In March, 1901, with his brother Lewis and sister Bertha he moved to the Fillmore farm in Twelve Mile Lake township, Emmet county, Iowa. He lived at several places until 1916 when he moved to a farm near Gardner, North Dakota. He never married.

He was preceded in death by his parents, by his sister, Mrs. Andrew Anderson (Anna); and by his brother, Edward.

He is survived by three brothers, Andrew, of Gardner, North Dakota; Lewis of Spencer, Iowa; and Joseph of Estherville, Iowa. Two sisters mourn his death. They are Mrs. Gid Willey, of Portland, Oregon; Lillian Larson, of Gardner, North Dakota; and a foster sister, Mrs. Jack Summers, Omaha, Nebraska.

Old friends in this locality remember Mr. Larson quite well and they had a high regard for him. They regret to learn of his death and join the Time in extending sympathy to the surviving members of the family. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, May 19, 1949)
