Gurine Anfinson was born in Skaanevik, Norway, on March 20, 1863. She was baptized and also confirmed in the Lutheran faith in the same community. She was married in Bergen, Norway, on January 30, 1896, to Kornelius Kumle. He was employed for many years in that city as a plumber.
On April 11, 1926, Mrs. Kumle left Bergen and came to Blue Earth, Minn., during that same spring. She lived there for 3 years.
During the early part of 1929 Mr. and Mrs. Kumle left Blue Earth, Minn., and moved into Emmet county. Since their arrival to this community they have lived East of Wallingford and have made their home with their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Olaf Helland.
Mrs. Kumle has been weak physically for a long time. While she lived in Norway she suffered a paralytic stroke and likewise was smitten with a second one after she came to Emmet county. She died suddenly at the Coleman hospital of heart failure on Thanksgiving day. At the time of her passing away she was 72 years, 8 months and 8 days old.
Mrs. Kumle was of a very quiet and reserved disposition. From early youth she trusted in Jesus Christ as her Saviour and loved His word.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, K. Kumle; her daughter, Mrs. Olaf Helland; 2 grandchildren and a sister and 2 brothers in Norway.
The funeral service was held on December 2, in charge of the Rev. Peder Nordsletten. A brief service was conducted at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral parlors in Estherville, Iowa, and at 2 p.m. at the Riverside church one mile east of Wallingford. In addition to the congregation singing a solo was sung by Norman Larson and also one by the Rev. Nordsletten. Mrs. Ingolf Ness was the pianist during the church service.
The following men served as the pall-bearers: L.B. Nelson, Lars Waldee, Glenn Young, Johnnie Johnson, Art Aanonson and Edw. Iverson. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 10, 1935)
Funeral services for Mrs. Kornelius Kumle, 72, were held at 1:15 o’clock Monday in the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel and at the Riverside Church east of Wallingford. Interment was made in the Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Kumle died in the Coleman Hospital at 11:30 o’clock Friday [November 29, 1935]. She was taken to the hospital a few hours before her death caused by a heart attack.
Mrs. Kumle and her husband lived with their daughter, Mrs. Olaf Helland, who lives on a farm east of Wallingford. They have made their home in this county for ten years. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 4, 1935)
