Death Claims Two More Emmet County Soldier
Roy O. Butler and Norris Kasa Both Victims of Spanish Influenza
Wallingford, Iowa, October 14th
This community was shocked Tuesday to hear of the death of one of its soldier boys, Norris Kasa, who passed away the previous night at the training camp at Fort Snelling, Minnesota. While it was known that his condition was serious it was not expected that the end was so near. He was born on December 29, 1892, near Wallingford, and passed away October 17, 1918, hence at the time of his death was nearly twenty-six years of age. He had been farming with his brother, James, at Revere, Minnesota, for some time past and was called from there to join the colors. He went last month from Windom, Minnesota, to St. Paul, where he took a course in mechanical training and after a short time was transferred to Fort Snelling where he took sick with the Spanish influenza and passed away on Monday, October 7, after being ill only seven days. His body arrived here Wednesday evening and the funeral was held Thursday afternoon at the Riverside church and interment was made in that cemetery. Rev. Paulsrud of Randall delivered an elaborate sermon in which he used the text: “Give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar and give unto God what belongs to God.” He leaves to mourn his death his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Kasa, and the following brothers and sisters: Helmar Kasa of Estherville, Leonard and James of Revere, Minnesota; Kirt, of this place; Mrs. Chas. Heidecker of Sherburn, Minnesota, Mrs. Melvina Burns and Misses Florence, Odell and Ruby Kasa who reside in Wallingford. The flag-draped casket that contained another of our brave boys was carried to the last resting place by the following pall bearers: Lewis Sevatson, Francis Skattebo, Jacob Jacobson, Emil Hanson, Arthur Skattebo and Chester Anderson. The entire community joins with the Vindicator and Republican in extending the most heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved relatives. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, October 16, 1918)

Norris Kasa, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Kasa of Wallingford, passed away at Fort Snelling on Wednesday, Oct. 9th, and the remains were sent to Wallingford for burial Thursday, the Rev. Paulsrud and the Rev. Hanson officiating. Norris Kasa was 25 years of age and had been in training in the mechanical department at Fort Snelling. He was a young man of mechanical ability and was an extremely active young man. It is sad that this young man could not have remained in our army to reach the goal he desired, and be with his comrades at the front. However, he, like so many of our young soldiers, was stricken with the Spanish Influenza, and later with pneumonia and was taken from our great army.
