Graettinger Woman Dies
Graettinger – Mrs. J. L. Johnson [Gertrude Nelson Johnson] of rural Graettinger died of a stroke late last night in Holy Family Hospital, Estherville. She was 82.

A native of Voss [dob prox. 1883], Norway, Mrs. Johnson had lived in the Graettinger are since 1898.

In 1916 she was married to John L. Johnson at Graettinger. The couple had lived on a farm one mile north of town since Mr. Johnson’s retirement from well drilling.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church, where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. The Rev. Robert E. Glaser will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Wallingford.

Friends may call at the Fuhrman Funeral Home in Graettinger after 3 p.m. Monday until time of services.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Thu, Graettinger, Mrs. Annie Ogre and Mrs. Lena Fletekol, both of Voss, Norway. Her parents, a sister and a brother preceded her in death. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 12, 1964)

Services Held Tuesday for Mrs. J.L. Johnson
Mrs. John L. (Gertrude) Johnson, 82, of Graettinger, died Friday night at Holy Family hospital. Death was attributed to a stroke. She had been seriously ill the past 16 days.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Wallingford Lutheran church, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert e. Glaser, officiating. Burial was in Riverside cemetery at Wallingford. The Fuhrman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Clarence Tu, Glenden Thu, Willard Larson, LeRoy Oddson, Maxwell Jamison and Ervin Wikert.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 24, 1882, the daughter of Rogenhild and Trond Gjeraldstweet, at Voss, Norway. She had lived in the Graettinger area since 1898. She married John L. Johnson August 30, 1916, at Graettinger. They had lived on a farm a mile north of Graettinger since Mr. Johnson’s retirement as a well driller.

Immediate relatives are her husband and three sisters, Mrs. Carrie Thu of Graettinger, Mrs. Anne Ogre and Mrs. Lena Klete-[ ], both of Voss, Norway. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, September 17, 1964)
