Wallingford – Funeral services for Effie Herum, 71, of Wallingford will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 19 at the Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford with the Rev. Dr. Linda Kersten officiating. Interment will be held at the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery in Wallingford. She died on Saturday, June 15, 2002 at Lyon Manor Care in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 18 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Effie was born April 24, 1931 in Rembrandt, the daughter of Warren and Ines (Armstrong) Shaeffer. Effie received her education at Estherville schools, graduating from Estherville High School.

On August 20, 1949, Effie was united in marriage to Richard Herum at Wallingford Lutheran Church in Wallingford.

Effie was employed at Iowa Lakes Community College as a cook for ten years. She also worked as a teacher’s aide.

Effie is survived by her husband, Richard of Wallingford; one daughter, Evelyn Leo, her husband, David of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two sons, Steven Herum and his wife, Vicki of Marion, S.D. and Dennis Herum of Sioux Falls; one brother, George Shaeffer and his wife, Ivy of Blaine, Minn.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She has been preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Ernest and Claude Shaeffer and an infant sister, Mae. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 17, 2002)
