Eric Herum Passed Away This Morning
Had Been Ill For Past Four Years – Funeral Services to Be Held Friday
After an illness of four years, Eric [“Bertie”] Herum passed away at the home of his sister, Mrs. Anfin Egland [Egeland], on south Ninth street, at 1:45 Wednesday morning. Death came as a relief to several years of misery and suffering from a cancer on his face. For three years he took treatments at the hospital at Rochester but his condition proved to be beyond help. During the past four months he had been at the Anfin Egland home and during that time had been confined to his bed practically all the time. Both Mr. and Mrs. Egland have been very kind and attentive to him and everything loving hands could do to lessen his pain and suffering was done by them. Eric Herum was born in High Lake township on January 15, 1872. During his entire life he had lived on his father’s farm in this county. He was one of the pioneers of Emmet county and knew what it was to work and suffer the hardships of the pioneer’s life. Early in his youth he was united with the Lutheran church and remained true to the creed of his church throughout his entire life. His passing away is but an entrance into a new and glorious life for him. Besides his mother and father, two sisters and three brothers have preceded him in death. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. P.S. Anderson, Mrs. A. Egeland and Miss Bertha Herum, all of this county, and three brothers, Andrew Herum of Randall, Minn., and Henry and Chris Herum of Manly, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 o’clock from the Egland home in this city, Rev. Strand, of Wallingford, and Rev. Lundy, of Armstrong, officiating. The body will then be taken to Wallingford where services will be conducted in the Lutheran church. Interment will be made in Wallingford cemetery. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives during their hours of sorrow. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, July 8, 1925)Pioneer High Lake Man Dies
