Wallingford – Services for Elsie Bernice Gunderson, 94, of Wallingford, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Wallingford Lutheran Church with Pastor Virgil Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. She died Sunday, March 20, 1988 at Holy Family Hospital, Estherville.

Friends may call at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville after 3 p.m. Wednesday.

She was born Oct. 28, 1893 at Pleasant Valley, Wis., the daughter of B.O. and Isabella (Osher) Jorstad. She attended Pleasant Valley and River Falls Normal schools. She taught rural schools in Wisconsin and Iowa following her education. On June 15, 1918 she was united in marriage with J. George Gunderson at her parents’ home. The couple lived in Wallingford over 60 years where he owned and operated a jewelry store and garage until his death in 1953. She was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sisters; Mrs. Stella Owens, Hammond, Wis., Nina Jorstad and Mrs. Helen Neilsen, Wallingford; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; two brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 23, 1988)
