Services for Byrl L. Felkey, 73, of Wallingford will be held Monday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Marcia L. Ball officiating. Interment will be in the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery with full military graveside rites by Norris Kasa American Legion, Wallingford. He died Friday, November 16 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home of Estherville is in charge of the arrangements.
He was born August 5, 1917 in Halfa, Iowa, the son of Elmer and Addie (Patterson) Felkey and graduated from Halfa High School in 1935. He served with the United States Army during World War II in the European Theater. He married Beverly Olson on January 13, 1947 in Wallingford. Following his marriage he farmed until retirement when the couple moved to Wallingford.
He was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Norris Kasa American Legion Post. No. 567, Wallingford and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3388, Estherville. He enjoyed softball and played first base on the Wallingford softball team that went to several state tournaments in Boone, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines from 1946-48.
Survivors include his wife and three sons: Jack Felkey and his wife Debby, Bozeman, Montana; Russel Felkey and his wife Jean, Sunnyvale, California; and Jeffrey Felkey and his wife Lori, Armstrong, Iowa. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Vern (Ethel) Glasnapp of Ringsted and nine grandchildren: Amanda (A.J.), Isaac, Lucas, Joel, Anna, David, Nicole, Anthony and Lacey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter and one sister, Faye Hector. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 19, 1990)
