Obituary Mrs. Birgit Ellefson
Mrs. Birgit Ellefson, maiden name Knutson, was born December 18th, 1830, in Aall, Hallingdahl, where she also was baptized and confirmed, was married to Ellef Ellefson the month of April, 1868. This union was blessed with three children, one boy and two girls. Mr. and Mrs. Ellefson came to America in the month of July 1870 and settled in Emmet county near Wallingford where they lived since.

About five years after their immigration Mr. Ellefson bought a farm on which he lived until his death. After Mr. Ellefson’s death April 9, 1910, Mrs. Birgit Ellefson lived with her son, Ellef Ellefson until four years ago, when he with his family moved to town. Mrs. Ellefson then stayed with her daughter, Mrs. Nels Mickelson until her death Friday, January 25th. She was at her death 93 years, 1 month and 7 days old. She died proclaiming her faith in the crucified and risen Saviour.

Those to mourn the loss of a dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother are the son Ellef E. Ellefson, and daughter Mrs. Nels Mickelson. Fourteen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. One of the daughters, Mrs. Gunhild Sevatson, born Ellefson, passed on before her mother.

Funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nels Mickelson and the Wallingford Lutheran church. Pallbearers were all grandchildren, Martin Sevatson, Carl Sevatson, L.G. Sevatson, Elmer Ellefson, Melvin Mickelson and Norman Mickelson. Rev. T. Hansen conducted the funeral services. Both languages were used at the funeral. A great host of relatives, friends and neighbors gathered to pay this old pioneer friend the last tribute. The choir sang a few numbers of appropriate songs. She was laid to rest at the Wallingford Lutheran cemetery, where her body will sleep until Resurrection morning.

May the good Lord bless those left after who were so kind to their mother and grandmother while she lived and may they all be united in the Heavenly home. – T. Hansen (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 6, 1924) Also published in the Estherville Enterprise, February 13, 1924
