Former Resident’s Rites Monday
Estherville – Joseph M. Brown, 78, Chicago, formerly of Estherville, passed away late Wednesday afternoon at his home in Chicago.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church south of Gruver with the Rev. Harold Brown officiating and burial in the Wallingford Lutheran Cemetery.

He was born March 7, 1896, in Wright County to James and Margaret Larson Brown and received his education in Emmet County rural schools.

Mr. Brown was married to Tillie Williams Jan. 23, 1923 at Wallingford and he had farmed in Emmet County all his life until his retirement five years ago. At that time he moved in with his son in Chicago. He was a member of the American Lutheran Church.

Survivors include three sons, Dr. Robert Brown, Macon, Ga.; the Rev. Harold Brown, Chicago; and Wayne Brown, Eden Prairie, Minn.; one daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Marlys) Dotzenrod, Warner Robbins, Ga.; five grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence, Janesville, Wis.; Vernon, Estherville; two sisters, Mrs. Anna Berg, Evansville, Wis.; Mrs. Tilda Berg, Broadhead, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two infant daughters.

The Henry Funeral Home, Estherville, is in charge of arrangements where friends may call after 1 p.m. Sunday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, December 20, 1974)
