Mrs. Andrew Andresen Dies at 77
Mrs. Andrew (Helena) Andresen, 77, Wallingford, died last night at Holy Family Hospital. The cause of death was attributed to cancer. She had been in failing health during the past three years and had been hospitalized since last Wednesday.Mrs. Andresen was born Jan. 27, 1886, in Neibull, Germany, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August C. Peterson. She came to this country with her family when she was two and half years old and the family settled on a farm in Sac County.
Mr. and Mrs. Andresen were married on March 30, 1904, at the home of her parents in Sac County. Following their marriage they farmed in Sac County until the spring of 1920 at which time they moved to a farm southeast of Estherville. Except for four years which they farmed near Graettinger, the Andresens had lived on the same farm until their retirement in 1945 when they moved to Wallingford.
Mrs. Andresen was a member of the Wallingford Lutheran Church and was active in all church activities until her failing health prohibited her activities.
She is survived by three sons, August Andresen, Estherville; Ernest Andresen, Graettinger; Herman Andresen, Terril; three daughters, Mrs. Harold (Etta) Howard, Estherville; Mrs. Albert (Emma) Thompsen, Belmond; and Mrs. Ervin (Helen) Matheason, Wallingford. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, one brother, Justus Peterson, Estherville; three sisters, Mrs. Julius Hansen, Schaller; Mrs. William Stick, Estherville, and Mrs. Fredrick Dreesen, Hartington, Neb. Mrs. Andresen was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Dorothy, two sisters, one brother and one great-granddaughter.
Family services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wallingford Lutheran Church and public services will follow at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert E. Glaser officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Wallingford.
Friends may call at Sternborg-Reese Funeral Home after 9 a.m. on Wednesday and until 10 a.m. on Thursday at which time the body will be taken to the church where it will lie in state until time of service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 29, 1963)
