Mrs. Gusta Marie Skattebo
Mrs. Gusta Maria Skattebo was born the 24th day of January, 1892, on a farm southeast of Estherville, was baptized the 6th day of June, 1892, in the Wallingford Lutheran church. Was confirmed in the Lutheran faith the 16th day of August, 1909. She spent six years at the state school of Ames where she worked. After returning from the state school of Ames she clerked at the J.A. Haring store in Wallingford. She was united in holy wedlock to Chester Stephen Anderson on the 14th day of November, 1926. About two years ago Mrs. Anderson was taken sick with water on the lungs, brought on by a severe cold. She went to the Coleman hospital and underwent an operation or as it is called, “Tapping of the Lungs.” She recovered remarkably from that attack, came back to her work at the store where she had worked before and continued up to the date of her marriage. For some time she has been feeling rather bad and a stubborn cough that she attributed to a bronchial ailment continued but she hoped and looked for a speedy recovery. This was not the will of our Heavenly Father. She continued to grow weaker until Wednesday [December 29, 1926] noon 12:45 she was peacefully called to the Great Beyond. She was at the time of her death 33 years, 11 months old.

Those to mourn the loss of a dear wife, daughter and sister are husband, Chester S. Anderson; parents, Mr. and Mrs. K.K. Skattebo; sister, Mrs. Charlotte Graff, Estherville, and brothers, Clarence, Lloyd, Arthur and Francis Skattebo. Two sisters and a brother passed to the Beyond before her, namely Mrs. Mabel Clemenson and Mrs. Minnie Johnson and Leonard.

Funeral services were held from the Skattebo home in Wallingford and from the Lutheran church on Friday, December 31st. Henry Mahlum, funeral director and Rev. T. Hansen conducted the funeral services. Pall bearers, J.A. Nelson S.T. Dybdahl, C.L. Torreson, J.G. Gunderson, Curtis Larson, Otis Jorstad.

A great host of friends, relatives of the sorrowing family had met to pay the last respect to their dear beloved friend, Mrs. Anderson. The casket was laden with floral wreaths and bouquets given as a last token of loving esteem by her dear ones. Mr. Silas Lundy sang a beautiful solo at the home, “It is Well With My Soul.” The choir sang several beautiful selections at the church and also at the cemetery. Mrs. Anderson was a girl that everybody loved and respected and held in high esteem and respect by anyone she may have come in touch with. She will be greatly missed in the congregation, in the choir, Luther League and Sunday school where she has been a teacher for several years but the keenest loss of all will be felt by her husband and parents from whom she parted so soon. Our deep felt loss is undoubtedly her great gain and our sorrow is her joy and peace. May our loving Saviour comfort and sustain the hearts of those who weep with the heart strain rendered over their loss and join with her in the celestial home of Heaven when this life is over.
