Lady, 82, Dies Friday
Mrs. Anfin Egeland Dies in Her Home Friday After a Long Illness
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Anfin Egeland, 82, who passed away on Friday morning in her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Egeland has been a resident of Estherville for thirty-two years. Before living in Estherville she lived on a farm near Wallingford. Nellie Herum was born in Dana [Dane] County, Wis., in April 1860. She was married to Anfin Egeland in July 25, 1900.

She will be greatly missed by her many friends and relatives, as she was considered a most sincere friend of those whom she knew. She was a member of the Lutheran church. Having no children of her own she raised a nephew Adolph, since he came from Norway when a small boy. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Mrs. P.S. Anderson of Wallingford and also by her nephew, Adolph Egeland who is from Eureka, S. Dak. Mrs. Adolph Egeland and daughter, Elizabeth arrive Saturday night with Mr. Egeland to attend the funeral.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Egeland home and at 2:30 in the Lutheran church with Rev. L.A. Mathre. The Mahlum and Anderson undertakers are in charge of arrangements. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 26, 1942)

Obituary
Nellie Herum was born April 30, 1860, in Dane County, Wis., to Mr. and Mrs. Peter Herum. She came with her parents to Emmet County in 1870. They were among the pioneer settlers in High Lake Twp. where they took a homestead. She was baptized as a child by the first Norwegian Lutheran pastor in America, Elling Eielson. She was confirmed Nov. 14, 1875 by the Rev. M.C. Holseth. She attended school at Northwood, Iowa and later taught in the public schools near Manly and also in High Lake Twp. July 25, 1900 she was united in marriage to Anfin Egeland. Two children were born to them both of whom died in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Egeland lived 10 years on their farm six miles south of Estherville in Twelve Mile Lake Twp. In 1910 they sold their farm and moved to Estherville where they have resided since then. In 1914, Adolph a nephew of Mr. Egeland was taken into the home and raised by them.

During their residence in Estherville, Mr. and Mrs. Egeland have been members and active workers in the Estherville Lutheran church. Mrs. Egeland was for many years very active in the Ladies Aid and from time to time held important offices in that organization. Theirs was a hospitable home and their doors were always open to receive guests who came to attend church meetings from time to time.

Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her passing her one remaining sister, Mrs. P.S. Anderson of Wallingford, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Egeland and daughter, Elizabeth of Eureka, So. Dak., and many nephews and nieces.

The funeral was held Tuesday, May 26, at 2:00 P.M. from the home and 2:30 at the Estherville Lutheran church. The pall bearers were Stanley Egertson, Joe Herum, Raymond Herum and Percy Herum. Interment was made in the Wallingford Lutheran cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, May 28, 1942)
