Funeral Rites Held Today for Anfin Egeland
Born in Norway; Came to This County in 1897
Funeral services were held today for Anfin Egeland who died Aug. 26 at the home of his nephew, Adolph Egeland at Eureka, S.D. after a lingering ailment of two years.

Anfin Egeland was born July 4, 1867 in Eids Sogn in Sunnhorland, Norway. He was the son of Anfin Paulson Egeland and Johanna Oldsdatter. He was baptized and confirmed at Halsno Fjeldberg Prestegjeld in Sunnhorland.

Worked Near Decorah
At the age of 19 Anfin Egeland came to the United States to Winneshiek county, where he worked near Decorah. In 1897 he arrived in Emmet county where he and his brother, Nels, farmed southwest of Estherville for a number of years.

July 25, 1900, he was united in marriage to Nellie Herum. Two children were born, both died in infancy.

In the spring of 1910 he retired from farming and moved to Estherville where the family resided until the fall of 1942. Mrs. Egeland died May 22, 1942, after a year’s serious illness and following her death Mr. Egeland went to live with his nephew, Adolph, at Eureka, S.D.

Member of Church
He was a member of the Estherville Lutheran church and previously was affiliated with the Wallingford church.

One brother, Ole Egeland of Wallingford, survives.

Other family members who preceded their brother in death were a sister, Bertha Egeland, a brother, Nels Egeland, who once lived in Emmet county and another brother, Jens, who died in Norway. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 30, 1943)
