Estherville – Funeral services for Eldon G. Sabin, 74, of Estherville will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17 at the First Christian Church in Estherville with the Rev. Charles Gilbert officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville. He died on Monday, Oct. 13, 2003 at his home in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Eldon was born on July 29, 1929 in Elmore, Minn., the son of Ervin and Alma Mae (Jones) Sabin. He moved with his family to the Armstrong area where he attended school and graduated from high school.

On Nov. 27, 1949, Eldon was united in marriage to Gladys Eisenhower at the Christian Church in Estherville. The couple farmed in the Armstrong and Swea City areas before moving to the Estherville area in 1956.

They farmed near Estherville until 1972 when they moved to Garden Grove where they farmed until 1983 when they returned to Estherville. Eldon worked for Estherville Foods, then Emmet county Implement and since July of 1999, he has been employed by Wal-Mart.

Eldon was a member of the First Christian church where he was a church deacon, was a past president of the Emmet County Fair Board, past member of the Wallingford Co-op Board of Directors, and past member of the American Breeders Association.

In his free time, Eldon enjoyed fishing, doing carpentry work and bird watching. He and Gladys were long time supporters of the Iowa Lakes Community College Basketball Program. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing softball.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys; sons Dennis and his wife Carla of Newton and Roger and his wife, Karen of Estherville; daughter, Nancy Beydler and her husband, Patrick of Osceola; 15 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sister, Orma Jean Quastad and her husband, Max and his brother, Arden Sabin and his wife, Donna all of Armstrong and his mother-in-law, Helen Eisenhower of Estherville.

Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gary and his father-in-law, Arnold Eisenhower. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 15, 2003)
