ESTHERVILLE - Funeral services for Gladys Helmich, 87, of Estherville will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville with Pastor Thomas Marth officiating. Interment will be at East Side Memorial Cemetery in Estherville.

She died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Gladys Mae (Haas) Helmich, the daughter of Charles and Jessie (Sanders) Haas, was born Feb. 11, 1925, near Elmore, Minn.
She attended school and lived in rural Kossuth County until 1940 when the family moved to the Estherville area.

On March 8, 1943 she was united in marriage to William Helmich Jr. in Estherville. Following their marriage, the couple farmed and lived northwest of Estherville until William retired in 1988. Gladys and William enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends. William passed away Aug. 31, 1993. Gladys remained on the family farm until becoming a resident at Rosewood Manor in March 2012.

Gladys was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Estherville.

Left to cherish Gladys' memory are her children, Roger Helmich and Eugene Helmich, both of Estherville, and Diane Winter and her husband, Rodney, of Marshall, Minn.; sister, Edna Billings of Estherville and nieces and nephews and their families.

She has been preceded in death by her parents; step-mother; her husband of 50 years and three brothers, Elmer, Roy and Marvin Haas. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 31, 2012)
