Elsworth Woods
Des Moines – Elsworth Peter Woods, 85, of Des Moines, died Saturday, Jan. 10, 1998 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 16 at Central Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. Interment will be in East Side Cemetery at Estherville at a later date. Westover Funeral Home of Des Moines is in charge of arrangements.

He was born in Emmet County and has lived the past 45 years in Ds Moines 91946 to present except for 1949-1955 when he lived in Kalamazoo, Mich.) He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy during WW II (1943-46). He served as Professor Emeritus at Drake University, Dean of the College of Liberal Arts at Drake in Des Moines. He retired in 1984. He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis, Golden-K, Int’l Torch Club, Waveland Park Masonic Lodge #654, Des Moines Consistory, Shrine, Phi Beta Kappa at Drake and United Nations Assn.

Survivors include daughters: Joan Fisher, Sharpsburg, Md., Carmen Chapman, Springfield, Ill., Elizabeth Walsh, Iowa City; sisters Elna Watts, Glenco, Minn.; brother Robert Woods of Estherville; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

The Westover Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be sent to the Ellsworth and Sylvia Woods awards fund to 4210 Hickman Road, Des Moines. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 13, 1998)
