Estherville – Funeral services for Lottie [Fern] Westrem, 98, of Estherville will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 4 at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville, the Rev. Larry Willey officiating. Interment will be at East Side Cemetery. She died on April 30, 1999, at Rosewood Manor in Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home.

She was born on June 30, 1900 in Ottumwa. She was adopted at a young age by Abe and Ida (Merriott) Pickell. She grew up in Dolliver with her family and graduated from Dolliver High School.

She was united in marriage to John T. Westrem on August 25, 1920 at her parents’ home in Dolliver. The couple moved to Estherville. She was a housewife and mother, bookkeeper and sales clerk at the J.C. Penney Store.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

She assisted with the dinner date program, enjoyed flowers and crocheting.

She is survived by her daughter, Florence Gathercole of Estherville; son, Merril J. Westrem of Mallacha, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, John; a son, John Jr.; grandchildren, Rodney and David; parents and four brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 3, 1999)
