Estherville – Funeral services for Elvin Lee Stroup, 73, of Estherville will be held on Saturday, Feb. 9, 2002, at the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville with the Rev. mark Gabbard officiating. Interment will be held at East Side Cemetery in Estherville.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Elvin was born on June 13, 1928 in Webb, the son of Warren and Cora Nellie (Dunlap) Stroup. He grew up in the Webb-Marathon area. He graduated from Fairview high School in 1947.

He was united in marriage to Iris Mardelle Henley on Dec. 2, 1950. In December of 1956 they moved to Estherville where he worked for John Morrell and Company until he retired in 1982.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Estherville and served as a deacon, he was a member of the Lakes Area Antique Car Club and John Morrell Retirees.

Elvin enjoyed golfing, gardening and woodworking. He was an avid sports fan. He enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Mardelle; his children and grandchildren, Barbara and Dennis Koenecke, Sara, Amy and Kyle of Estherville, Charles Stroup of Kansas City, Mo., Bridget and Scott Epps and Nicholas of Forsythe, Mo., Nathan Stroup of Widbe Island, Wash., Carol and Douglas Bosman, Michael and Jonathan of Emmons, Minn., and Jane and Marc Bell, Amanda, Melissa and Eric of Blue Earth, Minn.; sisters, Ardis and Kenny Schuler of Chaska, Minn. and Joyce and Richard Hegna of Dakota City; brother, Keith and Barbara Stroup of Lebanon, Ore.; sister-in-laws, Darlene Stroup of Orion, Ill., Irma and Warren DeWald of Salix, Wanda and Gary Grote of Sioux Rapids and Suki Henley of Mount Vernon. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warren and Cora Nellie; brother, Norman Stroup and sister, Laura Jean Stroup. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 7, 2002)
