Estherville – Funeral services will be held for Evelyn M. [Marie] Solmonson, 77, of Estherville at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 1 at the Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Chapel in Estherville with Pearl Overeen officiating. Interment will be held at the East Side Cemetery n Estherville.

Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today at Henry-Olson-Fuhrman Funeral Home in Estherville.

Evelyn was born on Jan. 16, 1925 in Estherville, the daughter of Ben and Cornelia (Montgomery) Archer. She received her education in the Maple Hill schools and graduated from Maple Hill High School. While in school, Evelyn excelled in playing basketball.

After her graduation from high school, Evelyn was employed at Speed-O-Print in Chicago, Ill.

On Oct. 14, 1946 she was united in marriage to Wayne Solmonson in Spencer. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Estherville and she was employed at the Emmet County Courthouse and then Brown Shoe Store.

Evelyn enjoyed music, dancing and sports. She was especially lucky with sports pools and loved dog racing. Her greatest joy was being a loving and concerned wife and mother.

Evelyn attended the Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Wayne of Estherville; four sisters, Lila Harnett of Waukegan, Ill., Fern Archer of Estherville, Zelia Solomonson and her husband, Ernest of Estherville and Norma Swalve and her husband, Otto of Estherville; one brother, Milton “Doc” Archer and his wife, Sharon of Estherville and one sister-in-law, Lucyle Solmonson of Estherville.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her son Roger, who died Feb. 2, 2002, her parents, one sister and – brothers. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, February 28, 2002)
