Estherville – Lester R. [Ruby] Sidles, 76, Estherville, died Friday, March 2, 1984, at Holy Family Hospital. Services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 5, at Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel, Estherville.Visitation will be at the Henry and Olson Funeral Chapel until time of services Monday. Masonic services were conducted Sunday evening. Burial will be at Eastside Cemetery, Estherville.
He was born Jan. 4, 1908, in Estherville, the son of Harry and Josephine [Ruby] Sidles. He graduated from Estherville High School in 1928. He married Erna Cooper Sept. 15, 1930, in Estherville. After high school, he worked for the J.C. Penney Company, drove the Sinclair tank wagon from 1934-1941, and then worked for the Estherville Police Department. He then moved to Alaska to work on the Alcan Highway. He served in the Navy during World War II. After his return from the service, he worked with his father and his brother (Ole) in a painting business. He worked for the city of Estherville for 25 years, retiring in 1970, at which time he was water superintendent.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Estherville VFW Post 3388, Estherville American Legion Post 91, the Estherville Masonic Lodge, the North Star Blue Lodge 447, the Jettha Chapter, Esderaelon Commandery, the White Shrine and Abu-Bekr Temple.
He is survived by one son, L. Richard and daughter-in-law, Sandra, and two grandchildren, Jeff and Sara Sidle, all of Estherville; and his mother-in-law, Mrs. Mary C. Waterman, Estherville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and brother. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 5, 1984)
